“According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”
Jerry Seinfeld
Most of us look at public speaking in the wrong light. Instead of thinking about giving someone a gift, we get distracted and pulled down by the thought of standing in front of a group and talking.
Think about this...has there ever been a gift you were wildly excited to give someone...and while they didn't know what was in the box...YOU DID? How did you feel in the moments prior to that person opening your gift? In public speaking, you have a gift for the listener. They may have an idea of what is in the box, based on your position or announced topic, but until you hand them that beautifully decorated box...it's all speculation. How do you get your audience interested and excited about attending your party? Don't misunderstand, sometimes public speaking is centered around presenting facts and figures. There are ways to do it WITHOUT boring every listener to tears. YOU ALREADY KNOW THE FORMULA.THINK ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE OR NOVEL.IT'S ABOUT TELLING A STORY!There are similar elements in nearly movie or novel. Hero, villan, love interest, danger, and of course happily ever after. Sometimes you need help putting all the elements together. Someone to help you find the best way to tell the story.
WE CAN HELP!Once outlined, the story begins to take shape...but there is one more thing!
DELIVERY!Most of us prepare a speech in a bubble, or a significant other becomes our sounding board.
Let's prepare and deliver the best speech you have ever given. There is no harm in getting help from an unbiased outside source. It could be the best decision you ever made...particularly for your career.
